When making your purchase make sure the retailer puts enough CO2 in the bag with the fish. Let them know how long your trip will be and add two hours to it.

Never release new Koi into your pond upon reaching home.

For at least an hour, float the bag of Koi in the pond, taking care to cover the bag with wet newspaper if the weather is sunny and hot.

Add pond water gradually into the plastic bag with Koi for about fifteen minutes then release  gently into pond.

If you already have fish in your pond it is best to quarantine any newcomers in a separate tank with a salt bath in case of any ailments.

To introduced a new fish during a green water period, extreme care must be taken to acclimate the condition of the water and those in the plastic bag gradually taking at least half an hour for the process.

You may find the fish will hide and not eat any food for a couple of days. Not to worry, they will soon come out of hiding when they are hungry and  feel comfortable enough to join the rest of the pond population.
